Nobody Does It Better

….. than the James Bond Tribute Band The Name is Band! An awesome live 10-piece Bond Tribute band consisting of some of the finest musicians on the circuit!

Bond music is timeless and there are so many variations and versions from performers such as Adele, Lulu, Matt Munro, Tom Jones, Chris Cornell, Garbage, Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Tina Turner, Aha, Duran Duran and many more!

The Bond Tribute Band perform a cabaret style set of Bond themes and we particularly like Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon from the Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.  Nobody Does It Better is such a simple song, beautifully sung with lovely words that even manage to capture the title of the Bond Film as a line within the lyrics.

The Bond Tribute Band The Name is Band have a fabulous version of this song on our website for you to listen to.  If you are looking to book a Bond Tribute Band for your Bond themed event then please get in touch with our own Miss Moneyspent!

Thunderball

Thunderball.  Originally performed by the Welsh Sex God that is of course Tom Jones! The original sound track for this film was “Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” sung by Shirley Bassey but concerns were over whether the title of the film should be the same as the sound track and so Thunderball was used instead.  This is the version by the Bond Tribute Band The Name is Band and features Gavin Lazarus (who is our very own Sex God but without the tight leather pants) who nails the long top note at the end and sings with suave sophistication all the way through this number.

Apparently rumour has it that when recording this Bond Theme Tom Jones said “I closed my eyes and held the note for so long when I opened them again the room was spinning”. What an absolute legend!

The Bond Tribute Band love this Bond theme – we have two trumpets, one trombone and one saxophone playing on this track.  We love the way the vocals interlink with the brass, chasing each other all the way through the song.  Nick Malcolm has a unique style and sound on trumpet and he can be heard with his own solo in the middle of Thunderball – blimmin marvellous stuff! Nick’s been known to raise a few eyebrows of his own at our Bond events – a few hairs on the back of the neck also with his wonderful trumpet solos in both the Bond and Party set.

If you are after a James Bond Themed Night and would like some quality bond music performed then please get in contact – we’d love to hear from you and see how we can make your event a night to remember…. but for all the right reasons!

From Russia With Love

From Russia With Love – starring Sean Connery as Agent 007 – Bond, James Bond.  The book written by Ian Flemming was apparently one of the top ten books that President John F Kennedy loved to read don’t you know!  Although John Barry had replaced Monty Norman as the soundtrack composer on this bond film, the bond theme was written by Lionel Bart. You may also recognise, and be able to sing along to, some of Lionel’s other songs from a famous film where a little boy asked for “More”- do you know what it is yet? Of course you do! It’s Oliver but he was also responsible for many more hits written for Shirley Bassey and Rod Stewart.  Lionel Bart couldn’t actually read or write music – he used to hum the songs and, for the 21 Carry On films, his co-partner at the time – Eric Rogers, used to transcribe them for him.

Matt Munro, who was affectionately nicknamed “the singing bus driver”, sang this Bond theme and his phrasing in this number is amazing.  The ease and sophistication in his vocals are like velvet.  Well the Bond Tribute Band The Name is Band have their own “fabulous crooner” in Gavin Lazarus who also has the ability to beautifully phrase lyrics old stylie when needed! When we were thinking about what Bond Themes to record for the website Gavin’s phrasing ability was a deciding factor in choosing From Russia With Love.

We hope you enjoy this one – To you….. From the Bond Tribute Band With Love …. awwwwww!

07.07.007

Sarah’s been asked a lot recently why she started the Bond Tribute Band The Name is Band….. and it all started with a date! 07.07.007 (7th July 2007 to be exact) it had to be THE most amazing date for a Bond Themed event.  In 2005 Sarah realised that the ultimate Bond date was approaching and really wanted to run another charity event to raise funds for four local charities.  There was a lot to organise for the event and pulling it all together took a fair bit of time!  It was nigh on impossible to find a band that specialised in playing James Bond music so Sarah chose instead to have 3 amazing live party bands and went all out on the Bond theme for everything else. There was no shortage of entertainment on the night: casino tables, bond car themed scalextrix set, fire eaters, stilt walkers, golden bond girl statues, amazing moving floor with fire or fish escaping with every footstep, our bond girls and boys escorting guests down the red carpet on arrival, bond cars and a Shirley Bassey tribute, Sean Connery & Baron Samedi look-a-likes.  There was one thing missing however – a Bond Tribute Band!  Although Sarah had been spending a lot of time organising the charity event she had also set the wheels in motion and was starting to get all the music for the James Bond Themes ready for starting up her own Bond Tribute Band….. so although the band wasn’t ready in time for the 7th July event, it was certainly ready shortly after! There’s no point rushing these things – if something is worth doing then it’s worth doing properly – with the Bond Themes being so famous and instantly recognisable we wanted to make our versions as authentic as possible!

How do I dress like a bond girl?

It’s your opportunity to be a Bond girl for a night – and there are lots of Bond girls to model yourself on!  Pussy Galore, Plenty O’Toole, Holly Goodhead and Honey Ryder!  Lots of names with double entendres! Of course, it may get a bit chilly if you turned up at a party dressed like Ursula Andress in a bikini or with gold body paint all over but you’d certainly grab more than your fair share of attention!   There’s also the black bodysuit/catsuits although be warned these outfits are fairly unforgiving – you may be a little bit more Pussy Galore than you intended to be!

You don’t have to go that far though!  There are stunning dresses available and every bond girl had the opportunity to wear a sexy and stunning dress either in the film or walking down the red carpet afterwards so there are lots of options available.  Look at your own figures – what style dress works well on you – backless, plunging necklines, halter neck, bodycon, floaty and flirty – there will be a bond style dress to fit!

Whatever your bodyshape remember the emphasis should be on top to toe glamour.  To be honest, the more glamorous the better and this may be one of the occasions when you can actually get away with wearing top to toe in sequins without looking like you are a Shirley Bassey tribute singer!  That’s the job of the female singer in the The Name is Band the Bond Tribute Band – now she LIVES in head to toe sequins – all day, everyday!
